Against the Sun

Against the Sun

Sorry for all the flying Icebat pictures, I just decided to try these "photoshop" like techniques today, so this is all pretty new to me.

For this picture, I shot Icebat on the counter with the 60mm 2.8, using the 600 speedlight pointed at the ceiling.

The background was just a mildly lit wall in my entry, when I clicked "Enhance" in iPhoto, it turned into the sun. Stoked.

From there, Icebat went into Acorn for some eye manipulation. :)

I cut out Icebat in Gimp, pasted him on the background, rotated him, and added mucho motion blur to his lower half.

From there, Icebat went into Picnik for some softening and whitening of the eyes and teeth. A triple shot of saturation sealed the deal. :)

Hanging Bat (Explored)

Too funny this pic got so much attention! (and continues to)

Most of my shots are totally planned out, lighting, posing, etc.

Anyways, so we had a BBQ last Saturday and as I was glancing down the hall, I noticed how cool the light was. But, my hall is a pretty boring shot, shot it several times. Never works.

However, Icebat and my D80 were on the counter a few feet away and I thought, what the hell?

I held Icebat in front of the camera and snapped a single quick shot using all the auto settings and AF. I'm really pleased how this came out with minimal editing in picnik.

Thanks for everyone who enjoyed and enjoys this.

Sitting by Herself : 17

This has been a pretty exciting day in the short little life of my daughter. Here she is, not even 6 months old yet, sitting on the couch all by herself. She sat there like a little angel while I scrambled for the D80. I could have gone the easy route with the iPhone to capture the moment, but I'm so thankful I snapped this look, along with the moment. She's changing so much everyday and I'm so thankful to have started this project when I did. I probably should have done it sooner, say... the first year of her life...
But, it's not like I haven't taken thousands of photos of her since her birth and made several albums, DVDs, etc.

Eva and I are so very proud of our wonderful little daughter, we only wish she would sleep through the night. Even still, the joy she brings us with her cute little smiles and loving giggles make every night from 3-4am well worth the wake-up!
